The National Coordinator for South East All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Consultative Forum, Romanus Oguleme yesterday in Abuja called on the leadership of the party to zone the speakership of the House of Representatives to the south eastern part of the country.
He made known that, the 2019 General Elections has produced credible and ranking party members in the National Assembly who are equally qualified to direct the affairs of both chambers unlike 2015.
Oguleme said that, the 9th Assembly shall be having two ranking members of the ruling party from the zone and ceding the speakership to the zone will strengthen the party in the eastern part of the federation.
It is worthy to note that this was coming as the chairman of the House Committee on Aviation, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, a member of the APC representing Isukwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State declared her intention to contest the speakership position in the forthcoming assembly during a press briefing in Abuja where she promised to advance the party’s developmental policies if elected as speaker.
In another development, Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency of Imo State representative, Hon. Chike Okafor has also indicated interest to contest the speakership position of the 9th Assembly and he is also of similar opinion with his female counterpart who represents Isukwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State as that will build a stronger structure for APC in the zone.
“The 9th House needs a speaker and a leadership that is experienced and competent. We need leadership that has and will display integrity but we must also strike a balance in terms of geo-political representation in the leadership of the national assembly and this is why I fully support any call for a South East speakership, Okafor said.
“Our party needs high ranking members of government to reposition the party in my region, and like I’ve done in the last four years, I’m willing to play a role in making APC strong in Igbo land,” he concluded.
