… council completes rehabilitation of PHC and put in life for Ambode to commission along side other roads projects
The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Hammed Idowu D. Tijani (HID) on Monday 16th July, 2018 hosted the Lagos State Ministry of Health for the first round of the year 2018 Lagos State Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week celebration which is targeted at ensuring a healthy living for women of childbearing age, immunization for children and infants for Vitamin A supplements, family planning, tetanus toxoid vaccine among others.
Present at the event were the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode ably represented by Director Ministry of Education Mrs. Oluwakemi Oke, Dr. Olufemi Onanuga Special Adviser Primary Health Care Lagos State, the Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, Hon. Oloruntoba Oke represented by the Secretary to the Local Government Pastor Ayo Jeje, Ojokoro LCDA legislators, executive members, APC stalwarts, pregnant women, nursing mothers.
The First Lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode who spoke through her representative and Director Ministry of Education Mrs. Oluwakemi Oke made it known that the event started far back 2003 in Lagos and was christen Child Health Day in which unprecedented success was recorded by the Lagos State government. The federal ministry of health later adopted it in 2010 and mandated other states to follow suit then renamed it as Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week which we are celebration today.
“This year’s first round of MCHW shall cover immunization of the children from 0-59months , vaccination of BCG, pentavalent measles and Hepatitis B, vitamin A supplementation, malnutrition screening, de-worming and reproductive health services such as intermittent preventive treatment for malaria in pregnancy, family planning services and administration of tetanus toxoid for pregnant women”, she said.
She further urged participants to visit government health facilities and other designated centres to enjoy all the available health provisions free and free of charge.
Dr. Femi Onanuga on the other hand made it known that the goal of government is to ensure no mother or child dies from preventable disease and further urges the people to cooperate with the government on the outlined programmes.
The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. HID Tijani however appreciated the First Lady for choosing to flag off of the first round of the Maternal and Child Health Week (MCHW) in the council area and giving Ojokoro residents the opportunity to be the first set of beneficiaries of the long week programme.
Speaking with newsmen, the council boss said his administration has also keyed into ensuring the people of the LCDA gets adequate health service thus the rehabilitation of Isokan PHC.
“The newly rehabilitated Isokan PHC will be ready for use soonest as the building is completed. Health facilities and man power for the PHC is also readily available but we are just left with the flooring. Our people will get to use the hospital soonest. Our ever dynamic and proactive governor, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode will be coming to commission it”, he concluded.
