Rotary sensitises, tests residents for hepatitis B, C

Hepatitis is serious liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus that’s easily preventable by a vaccine.
This disease is commonly spread by exposure to infected bodily fluids and several people are living with this deadly virus without knowing it as a result of less awareness and sensitization for it.

 

In a bid to eradicate the spread of Hepatitis B and C in Nigeria, the president of Rotary Club of Alagbado, Rotarian. Aderibigbe Temitope Samuel and members of the club has embarked on sensitization on this dreaded disease and further tested the residents of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area.

 

The event which was powered by Rotary International and supported by Ojokoro LCDA successfully screened residents and some market women at in Kollington area of the LCDA.

 

Speaking with newsmen, the President of the Club, Rotarian. Aderibigbe Samuel made known that, Hepatitis is a very deadly viral disease and the club is set to do everything possible to prevent the spread in the community.

 

“We partnered with Ojokoro LCDA on this and we appreciate the authority of the council who gave us this health center to carryout out this project and we are also in talk with other local government for our family health week in October where we will do varieties of free tests and made drugs available to people and residents free and absolutely free”, he said.

 

“If we eventually have positive cases of Hepatitis B or C today, we will refer them to the Medical Officer of Health of this council for appropriate treatment”, he concluded.

Also present at the event is Hon. Dauda Moruf, the deputy leader of Ojokoro LCDA Legislative Arm and the council representing Ward E where the Kola Primary Health Center that hosted the project is situated, Alhaji Akanni and other stakeholders in Alagbado community.
