Breaking: Police rescue 3 varsity students from gunmen


The Public Relation Officer of Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Yakubu Sabo has confirmed the rescue of three Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria Students who were abducted by gunmen on Monday 26th August, 2019 near Masari Village along Kaduna – Abuja Expressway who opened fire on commuters and kidnapped six persons while three others are yet to regain their freedom.

DSP Yakubu narrating the incidence made known that the gunmen began its operation on the said date at about 18:50hr and security agents, intelligence Response Team (IRT) and PMF swung to action having receiving the distress call.

He said, “due to the prompt response of the Police and other security agents to the scene, three people were later released by the hoodlums due to intensive combing within the general area.”

Rescued ABU Law students, Maryam, from Niger, Fatima from Taraba and Umar from Katsina by the Nigerian Police Force.

He assured that intensive efforts are in place by IRT, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, PMF to rescue the remaining  three victims, apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The rescued Students were Law students of ABU Zaria.

DSP Sabo wants the public to note while regretting the unfortunate incident that, the story being circulated on the incident is a gross exaggeration and misrepresentation of fact aimed at causing more fear in the minds of the public.

“Thus, the Command enjoins the general public to jettison such report as misleading information. Tthe press should continue to uphold high ethical standard of their profession”.

The command further appealed that all accounts of crimes be verified before publication to avoid sharing falsehood. “Internet subscribers should also be cautious in sharing stories of questionable sources especially via the social media,” he concluded.
