Residents of Somolu Local Government Area in Lagos sing praises as a non-governmental volunteer group under the aegis of Akoka Our Supreme Instrestz gave out palliative to vulnerable, the poor and the needy in the LG.
The palliatives include food items and face mask which cuts across a reasonable number of people in Akoka area of the council. Akoka Our Supreme Instrestz began her move with a sensitization campaign educating the people of the pandemic. The need to stay safe and adhere to all the laydown rules and regulations of the government to combating the virus.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the programme coordinator of the group, Akosz Ayodele Akinshola, said it is to appreciate all health workers who are on the frontline of finding a lasting solution to the pandemic. Not leaving out the security operatives who ensure government guidelines are followed to the letter.
Health workers at Akoka Primary Healthcare Center and the security operatives stationed at Pako bus stop also got a fair share as facemasks and food were extended to them as a sign of appreciation for their efforts in Akoka community.
Akoka Our Supreme Instrestz further moved from Ojo, Ibukun Olu, Sholanke, Shobande, Ayinke, Osanyinpeju streets to Chemist bus stop, among others for a house to house sensitization on the dreaded pandemic. The group educated the people on the need to keep personal hygiene, the importance of face mask usage, social distancing and frequent handwashing. They also demonstrated the right method of handwashing technique to the residents.
Speaking with GOVTOROS, Comrade Rotimi Oluyede a member of the Akoka Volunteer group said, “our group is on the street as a community service to our people. This is also to complement the effort of the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu (Dullar) in cushioning the effect of the lockdown here in Shomolu.
Dr. Akinade Adekunle speaking at the Akoka Primary Healthcare Center said the volunteers acted right as their gesture reassured the health workers that the Akoka as a community appreciates the efforts of the government and health workers at this crucial time of global health history.
Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu (Dullar) in a statement made available to newsmen by Oseni Owolabi Ajimomuya, the Chief Press Secretary of Somolu Local Government said, the council boss appreciates the contribution of Akoka Our Supreme Instrestz in this trying time and prays for God’s guidance and mercy over them all.
A leader of Akoka Our Supreme Instrestz, Victor Osaghale, Akosz Adeneye Christopher, Akosz Olumide Shittu and Akosz Hon Daisi Kayode were among chiefs of the group were mobilizing and sensitizing residents on cleanliness and staying safe.
