Kogi State Government has rejected the reported index cases of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
NCDC in her usual manner announces the number of cases found in each state of the federation according to the result of the test conducted on the samples harvested from each state.
It will be recalled that the Kogi state government had earlier tested hundreds of people randomly in the state and all the result came back negative. The state had also informed Nigerians that it has an application it uses on COVID-19 pandemic.
However, NCDC earlier said it does not believe in the test facilities of Kogi as it is not same as that of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. While revealing the details of NCDC recent test, Kogi state has been reported to have two (2) index cases which was rejected by the state government.
Kogi State commissioner for health, Dr. Saka Haruna Audu, in a press statement has described the claim as a fallacy.
The commissioner further said that the state is still free of the pandemic saying that the state has tested hundreds of people in the state. He also made known that the state has developed full testing capacity use to conduct tests and its tested hundreds and returned negative.
“Kogi State till this very moment is COVID-19 free. We have developed full testing capacity and have conducted hundreds of tests so far which have returned negative”, he said.
Dr. Saka has said that Kogi State Government will never be part of any fictitious announcement of a non-existing COVID-19 result in the state. Giving the reason why NCDC was not recognized to operate in the state noting that test should be conducted in the state and not outside Kogi.
“We have also continued to insist that we will not be a party to any fictitious COVID-19 claims which is why we do not recognise any COVID-19 test conducted on any Kogite outside the boundaries of the State except those initiated by us”.
“Any attempt to force us to announce a case of COVID-19 will be vehemently rejected.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Wednesday said that two index cases were recorded in Kogi, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 8,733.
