A school proprietor has been arrested and handed over to the police in Osun State for circulating a fake proposal for school reopening on a WhatsApp group amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier before now, the federal government has shut down the opening of schools to prevent the communal spread of the virus most especially among the school children in Nigeria.
The unapproved school reopening proposal which was shared on a platform got to the attention of the Osun State Special Adviser to the governor on Education, Mr Jamiu Olawumi which made the state to act fast on the issue.

Mr. Jamiu responding to the circulating proposal has further asked the general public to disregard the proposal being shared as it does not emanate from the government.
“Schools were closed by the President and the power to reopen has been conceded to the state governors. Osun citizens should await the announcement as endorsed by the governor very soon. We have handed him (the person behind the proposal) over to the police. Disregard the proposal please”, Olawumi said,
The state government has further directed the school proprietor be arrested for circulating a fake proposal that may lead to a spike in the pandemic spread.
The said fake reopening proposal said schools in Osun state were to resume on July 20, 2020 and only 20 children were to sit in a class and also proposed that big schools would run two shifts of morning 8am to 12pm; and afternoon, 1.30 pm to 5.30pm daily.
Olawumi further told residents to wait for the directive of Governor Gboyega Oyetola on the issue.
On the flip side, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools’ in Osun State is yet to speak on the issue as the president of the association Alhaja Muinat Adepoju is yet to speak on the issue.
