Edo Election: Protect NYSC members; Oba tells INEC

Ahead of the Edo State Election, the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II is worried about the safety of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who will be employed to work with INEC.  The king has therefore called on security agencies to guarantee the protection of these fresh graduates.

The Oba made the call when NYSC Director-General, Brig-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim visited him on Thursday in Benin City, the state capital.

The king further volunteered to join forces with the NYSC boss to ensure the full protection of corps members who will be participating in the election.

Oba Ewuare said the objective of NYSC is to foster national unity and understanding between ethnic groups. This must be upheld and as such, the palace authority is doing everything within its powers to ensure the safety of corps members in the state before, during and after the election.

“There is need for corps members to be protected because of the desperate attitude of some politicians. The aspiration of politicians is not worth the blood of any corps member, they must be protected from any attack”, he said.
