President Muhammadu Buhari has told former leaders of. Nigeria that the government’s decision to accept the demands and requests of Nigeria Youths made the protest go violent.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina quoted the president at the virtual meeting with Nigeria past presidents and heads of state.
The presidency in listening to the demands of the youth expressly scrapped the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

“Unfortunately, the protesters refused to call off the protest and engage the government to address their grievances. Instead, they became emboldened and gradually turned violent.”
The presidential aide further quoted Buhari as expressing concern that in the mayhem that ensued, many lives have been lost, several public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised.
While assuring Nigerians of the government’s commitment to good governance to her citizens. The Special Adviser further quoted the president.
“We will continue to improve good governance through our democratic process including through sustained engagement”.
“We shall also continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens, are protected. Here, I want to also reaffirm our commitment to preserving the unity of this country.”
Adesina concluded said President Buhari informed his predecessors that the protest was unfortunately hijacked and misdirected from the initial genuine and well-intended protest of the youths.
