Lawmaker calls for calm as motorists protest extortion by Police in Badagry
The lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe on Friday called for peace as commercial motorists protested Police extortion on Lagos Badagry expressway.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commercial motorists on May 22 protested the high rate of police extortion along Lagos Badagry Expressway.
Hunpe made an appeal via a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry Federal Constituency Lagos State.
According to the lawmaker, when he had about the protest by the motorists plying Lagos Badagry expressway and the extortion by the security agents, which has been on for long and has become a recurrent decimal.
He quickly sent a high power delegates to lead by his chief of staff Hon. Setonji Sunday Balogun to the Area Commander of Area K Police station Morogbo, over the protest and the Area Commander, assured him that he has personally waded into the matter.
Thereafter the Area Commander met with the motorist Union, drivers and stakeholders and promised to reconvene another meeting after Sallah holiday”, he said.
While Hon. Hunpe made an appeal to the protesting motorists to sheave their swords and wait until the outcome of the meeting with the security agent.
He also appeals to all other security agencies, Immigration Services, Customs, FRSC, VIO and LASTMA to consider the pain been pass through presently by the masses due to Covid-19 Pandemic and adjust accordingly.
