#Lekki Massacre: Nigeria Army Never Arrested Anyone Culpable

The picture above and in this text had been circulating on several social media pages as the attackers and those who open fire on peaceful protesters in Lekki. The posters said those in the photo are soldiers who attacked protesters at the Lekki Tollgate and have been arrested by the Nigerian Army. Although it has not been used by any news medium for similar claim aside from whatsapp platforms.

The ENDSARS Protest
It is no longer a news that Nigerian youths have been peacefully protesting demanding good governance. The protest began with the #ENDSARS, #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY and other hashtags follows.

The protest was happening simultaneously at every state in Nigeria but the most organized and strategically planned was the Lekki Toll Gate Protest.
The protest if lasted for 30day will attract united nation’s intervention which will be disastrous for the Nigeria Government. The protesters listed their five points with another #5of5 which include disbandment of SARS, Police Reform, and increment in police salary among others.

The government in response promised to put all the demands in place with a media implementation or verbal disbandment of police by the Inspector General of Police but Nigerians wanted the president to use the executive order to put an end to that.
This is because the Nigerian Government had made several promises in the past and failed to fulfil them.

LEKKI MASSACARE
On the 20th day in the month of October 2020, the Lagos State Government announced a 24hr curfew which in my opinion is to disperse the protesters so that the state can have control of the state as movements in Lekki area has stopped.

This is because the tollgate had been taken over by the protesters. To further disperse the protesters, the light at the tollgate was put off by the management of the toll and the camera (plate number scanner) was removed.
Later that same night, military men went to the peaceful protesters and open fire leaving scores injured. There had been conflicting reports about the number of casualties recorded.
Accusing fingers had been pointed a the Lagos State Government for the killings and another to the National Leader of All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as regards the killing.

VERIFICATION
A google reverse image was done on the picture and it was discovered that the photo is that of “Fake Captain and 40 Other Military Operatives Have Been Arrested in Lagos and Ogun States” on the month of May 2020. It was published by several media platforms and national dailies online. Even Opera News published it and clippings is attached bellow.

CONCLUSION
The news of the Nigeria Army apprehending those behind Lekki massacre is not true. A reverse image search showed that the photo accompanying the claim was taken in the month of May when fake military personnel were arrested in Lagos and Ogun State.
