It will be recalled that The Polytechnic has just been upgraded to a university few days before the incident by the National Universities Commission and has handed over the certificate of approval to Ogun State government.

The protesting lecturers alleged the head of the committee Prof. Peter Okebukola of sacking close to 300 lecturers of the institution as he requested them to present a resignation letter and reapply after working with the institution for several years.

The ASUP chairman, Kola Abiola, said the Prof. Peter Okebukola’s committee had directed that close to 300 lecturers of MAPOLY should resign and reapply as academic staff members of MAUSTECH which is invariably sacking the staffs. He further said that, ASUP is ready and available for consultations but any attempt by its members to lose their jobs will not be welcomed.

However, Prof. Okebukola has criticized the lectures in his response. He made it known that meeting was held with staffs of the polytechnic at the commencement of the upgrading process and the position on job security has been spell out clearly.
