Ojokoro Fire Service Station: Lagos State Government inspects proposed site

As part of efforts to ensure safety and reduce the continuous loss of lives and properties by residents on fire mishap, it’s of the essence for personnel and types of equipment to be closer to the people for prompt emergency responses on distress calls.

Hence, the Chairman House Committee on Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Hon. TPL. Rasheed Makinde, member, Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 02 has facilitated the construction of a fire service station to be located within Ojokoro local council development area for prompt emergency response.

It will be recalled that between 2006 to 2020 not fewer than 1,200 lives has been lost and properties worth over 1 Billion Naira has been destroyed due to vandalization of NNPC pipeline among other fire mishaps.

In 2020 only, Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojokoro recorded Seven cases of Fire Mishaps, Ojokoro recorded four (4), Two on Social Club Road (Vandalization), One on Clem Road and One on Musbau Ashafa Street.

While Ifako Ijaiye also recorded three (3) cases, NNPC college before Kayode Street, Gas Station on Iju Ogundimu Road by Akute, Petrol Station on Ajayi Street, Ogba.

Ifako Ijaiye and Ojokoro were not speared in the burning of cars and building during the #EndSARS protests that later turned violence between OPC and Hausa Community in Abattoir and Fagba areas in Lagos.

The team of officials of the ministry led by the Director of Fire Service, Lagos State, Mr. Ogabi and a representative of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations alongside other top management staffs of the ministry were received by Alh. Hassan Balogun and other community leaders who took the visiting team round the proposed site for the project.

While acknowledging the role played by Hon. Makinde on the proposed project, Director of Fire Service, Mr. Ogabi said it is a great opportunity for the people of the constituency to have such a project proposed for the area, which will serve the whole Ifako-Ijaiye and beyond.

He also reiterated the commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration to further better the wellbeing of Lagos residents.

Responding on behalf of the community, Alhaji Balogun said that the government should be rest assured of the community support when the project fully kick-off and he urged them to expedite action on it so as to make it a reality.
