The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Godwin Obaseki has been declared the winner of the governorship election in Edo State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, announced the result of the election on Sunday at the state collation centre where party agents and other stakeholders were present.
Obaseki of PDP polled 307,955 votes to defeat his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressives Congress, who got 223,619 votes.
The incumbent governor is, therefore, returned elected after satisfying all requirements in line with the law and these were the words of Rim-Rukeh, while declaring Obaseki winner.
Obaseki of PDP ran against 13 others and the APC flag-bearer Ize-Iyamu on Saturday in the state which election result and collation ended on Sunday.
