The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Hammed Idowu D. Tijani on Tuesday assured #REFORMPOLICE and #ENDSARS protesters who visited the council secretariat in Ijaiye of governments’ intervention and response to the yearnings of the Nigerian Youths.
The council boss made this known when a group of peaceful protesters visited the council and demanded to see the council mayor on #REFORMPOLICE, #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY and #ENDSARS.
The spokesman of the protesters while rolling out their demands made known that they were out on a peaceful protest and not to cause unrest in any form.
“We are not here to fight you Sir but because we know you are our voice and we are sure that through you; our message will get to the higher authority. We do not want SARS in Ojokoro, the Nigerian Police should be Reformed and we say no to Police Brutality”, he said.
The council boss, Hon. Hammed Tijani commended the manner which the youths organized themselves and made their demands known to the government.
In his response, “I want to assure you that Mr. Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu is not resting his hoax on this issue. As at yesterday Mr. Governor addressed protesters in Lekki and today again, he also spoke to them in Ikeja to get their demands and making sure it gets to the presidency”, he said.
“This is a strong indication that we as the government have our ears on the ground and we listen to you all and will continue to do our best to ensure we give you what you desire”.
” A lot of meetings are ongoing as we speak to ensure your demands are met. According to your demands, banning SARS is not enough and that is why the government is putting in place proper reform of the Nigeria Police Force”.
“You will all recall that our ever proactive and working governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu has earlier assured the entire youths in the state that their demands will be made known to the president and that is already a done deal”, he said.
“On our part here in Ojokoro LCDA, we shall make another letter available to highlight your demands and forward them to the state again for the governor to be fully informed of your demands”, Hon. Tijani said.
While urging the youths to continue to be peaceful in driving home their demands as the government is ready and willing to ensure that the safety of lives and property of people in the LCDA are not toyed with.
