It is no longer a piece of news that the state of some federal roads in Lagos State is deplorable and to this fact, Hon. Owolabi Adisa, House of Representative Member, representing Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency moved a motion on Tuesday 21, July 2020 as earlier reported in the new media calling for urgent repair of the roads.

He calls for the reconstruction of the roads and laid more emphasis on Abule-Egba to and fro Sango Toll – Gate part of Lagos Abeokuta Expressway among others. Noting that this will bring about a very big relieve on to commuters and the people plying the road on a daily basis.

The Honourable Member while addressing the House of Representatives emphasized on the Economic Importance and the Risk the bad road poses to the lives and properties of thousands of commuters plying the road on a daily basis. Noting that several productive hours are wasted by commuters as a result of the deplorable state of the road.

“The road is so bad that commuters waste major parts of their productive time tucked in traffic. Most especially from Sango Toll-gate down to Abule-Egba. There is another very worst part in-between Ijaiye and Hammadiya, several vehicles slides and fall-off thereby destroying goods and sometimes causing several injuries”, Hon. Owolabi said.

He urged the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to urgently repair the road,  and further seeks the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to include the construction of the road in the 2021 budget proposal and appealed to the House Committee on Works to ensure prompt approval.

Speaking with our correspondence, Hon. James Adisa Owolabi said the motion proposal had been submitted to the house of representative for a while but the pandemic outbreak which has led to some sought of restrictions for the house to seating.

“As a result of this, the house had to adhere strictly to all the rules and regulations guiding the gatherings which invariably affected the house too. This has reduced and restricted the house plenary session to once in a week”, he said.

Having presented the case at the floor of the house, he further revealed some of his activities towards ensuring the road gets necessary attention for Lagosian and most especially the people of Ifako-Ijaiye to moves conveniently to their various destinations.

“Personally, I have contacted all the agencies involved to come to the aid of the commuters plying the road to reduce the hardship posed by the road on a daily basis” Hon Owolabi concluded.
