The Senate led by Ahmad Lawan has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Halilu Shaba as the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency.
Newsmen learned the approval came following the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology at plenary in Abuja, chaired by Senator Uche Ekwunife.
Recall President Muhammadu Buhari had in early March 2021 asked the Senate to confirm Shaba as DG NASRDA.
In a letter to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, Buhari said he was acting in line with Section 14 (1) (2) of the NASRDA Act 2010.
Dr. Halilu before his confirmation was the acting Director-General of the agency after being the Director in charge of Strategic Space Applications in the same organization from 2009 to 2019.
He has participated in workshops and conferences on Global Climate Change, Environmental Pollution, and Food Security; Future Earth Observation Satellite Programmes and Geospatial Information Management; and Geospatial Technologies for Economic Diversification among others.
He previously worked at the National Population Commission, Federal University of Technology, Minna, and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.
