The Upper Chamber on Thursday 1st June 2017 through The Senate Committee on Works proposed and recommended an increase in the price of every liter of petroleum with additional levy of N5 which will shoot its price to N150 from the present N145 so as to execute the National Road Fund as proposed.
Among the fifteen members of the committee only three members ruled against the proposal saying that increase is not right and they are Senators Biodun Olujimi, Ahmad Ogembe and Olusola Adeyeye while Senators Gaya, Ben Murray- Bruce, Buruji Kashamu, Barnabas Gemade, Ibrahim Danbaba,Clifford Ordia, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Sani Mustapha, Gilbert Nnaji, Mustapha Bukar, Abubakar Kyari and Mao Ohuabunwa appended their signatures on support of the report.

The report has been given to senators as sources of revenue for the National roads fund as the committee recommended “fuel levy of N5 chargeable per litre on any volume of petrol and diesel products imported into Nigeria and on locally refined petroleum products”.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration increased the pump price of fuel from N87 to N145 per litre so as to avert government excesses on subsidy.
