Street Begging: Abuja clamps down over 140beggers, set to repatriate 1000

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has evacuated 150 beggars and destitute from the major streets of Abuja for constituting a nuisance.

Secretary Social Development Secretariat, Hadiza Kabir who led the exercise on Monday said most of the evacuated beggars were women, children and old men.

She said it was on the heels of FCTA’s renewed clampdown on street begging following several reports of complaints about the menace.

The team picked up the beggars from streets from shopping malls, supermarkets, Mosques and other notorious spots within Maitama, Wuse II, Garki and other areas of the city.

She added that the secretariat targets the repatriation of over 1,000 beggars at the end of the exercise.
